When I decided to record this album, my main concern was to record a selection of songs that I would happily listen to while driving the car, sitting with a glass of wine before bedtime, or while doing some other nonsensical thing that requires the softer tones of jazz.
I got together with some great people who have all given their time and talent in order to bring my ideas to light, and so here is "Wave up to the Shore". The name is taken from a song by Irish singer/songwriter Luka Bloom which I found in an Irish song book.
Having spent my childhood divided between a remote island off the south west coast of Ireland and Copenhagen in Denmark, the sentiments of the Irish music have engrained themselves in me along with the flourishing jazz tradition in Copenhagen.
I have been fortunate enough to sing with some of the best jazz musicians in Denmark from a very early age. The likes of Hugo Rasmussen, Niels Jorgen Steens "Monday night big band", Henrik Bolberg of the radio big band, Bent Jaedig and my arranger and very dear friend Torben Kjaer.
The past couple of years have also taken me to the Avoriaz jazz festival in France where I have sung with tenor sax player Andre Villeger and the french singer Marc Thomas among others.
Now living in the UK I mainly have the pleasure of working with the wonderful quartet you hear on this album.
Thank you so much to all involved and I hope you enjoy "Wave up to the Shore"
